Manchester United duo set for exit

Manchester United have told defensive duo Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind that they are both free to move on this summer, according to the Times.

Darmian has been continuously linked with a return to Italy over the past twelve months and has now, along with Blind been told that he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

The Italy international moved to the Red Devils from Torino in the summer of 2015 and featured regularly in his first season in England playing thirty-nine times in all competitions, scoring once.

However, the twenty-eight year old full-back has been used more sparingly since and has played just six times in the league this term with just half of those outings coming from the start.

I think Arsenal would be good for a German coach – Podolski

Arsenal should consider appointing a German coach to replace the outgoing Arsene Wenger, according to Lukas Podolski.

Wenger stunned the footballing world on Friday when he announced he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season after nearly 22 years in charge.

Podolski who spent two-and-a-half years working under the Frenchman at the Emirates Stadium is intrigued to see what direction his former employers go in as they begin their search for a new manager.

The World Cup winner believes Carlo Ancelotti is an ideal candidate if Arsenal, who appointed German Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment last November, want someone with experience but could see them instead looking for a younger option to take charge.

If someone was in a club for 2…

Lyon and Paris FC thrown out of Coupe de France after crowd trouble

Lyon were expelled from the Coupe de France on Monday, paying the price for crowd trouble that caused their last-64 tie at Paris FC to be abandoned.

Paris FC were also banished from the competition and served with a five-game stadium closure, while Lyon s supporters have been banned from travelling to all domestic away games for the rest of the season.

The December 17 tie between the sides was called off at half-time as fans clashed at the Charlety stadium. Supporters appeared to be fighting in the stands and several flares were thrown before a number of fans made their way onto the pitch.

Lyon declared they would look to identify the individuals responsible and serve them with lifetime stadium bans, and the French Football Federation (FFF) has now handed down s…

Vinicius sends ´a strong hug´ to Pele and says Brazil can ´keep dancing until the final´

Vinicius Junior sent a strong hug to Pele and says Brazil can keep dancing until the final after helping the Selecao beat South Korea 4-1 to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele has been receiving treatment in Sao Paulo, though his family have denied reports that he is receiving palliative care.

On social media, the Selecao legend confirmed he would be watching Brazil s knockout clash with South Korea and will have enjoyed the performance as Vinicius opened the scoring before a Neymar penalty put him one short of Pele s all-time scoring record for his nation.

Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta rounded off the scoring to give Brazil a four-goal advantage at the break, with Paik Seung-ho s effort in the second half merely being a consolat…

Sean Dyche pleased to see Jordan Pickford prove his credentials

Sean Dyche says Jordan Pickford answered his critics with a crucial double save in Everton’s 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

Pickford recovered from scoring an unfortunate own goal earlier in the game to ensure his side left Bramall Lane with a point, miraculously denying Oli McBurnie twice at the death.

He tipped a header onto the underside of the crossbar and then recovered to turn the follow-up effort onto the post as Everton got their league season up and running after three successive defeats.

Tevez set for Juventus medical

Juventus have agreed a fee for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, according to Sky Sports.

The Argentina striker is set to fly to Italy to undergo a medical after officials from the two clubs thrashed out a deal during a meeting in London on Tuesday.

The Serie A Champions are set to pay an initial £10m for the 29 year old, with a further £2m additional payments also agreed.

Tevez moved to the Etihad Stadium from local rivals Manchester United back in 2009, going to make 148 appearances, scoring 74 goals.

He captained the club to FA cup success in the 2010/11 season, though he made just thirteen league appearances in their Championship winning campaign a year later following an incident during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

Hull City must learn from old mistakes, warns Bruce

Steve Bruce has warned his Hull City players to retain their focus after a strong start in the club s return to the Premier League.

Hull sit eighth in the table after six games, having won three and drawn one of their fixtures so far, only slipping to defeats at title-chasing Chelsea and Manchester City.

Comparisons have been drawn between the current campaign and their first Premier League season under Phil Brown in 2008-09.

After a similarly promising start, Hull won just one of their last 22 games of the season, surviving with 35 points the second lowest total in Premier League history.

Bruce is keen to keep the momentum going in order to avoid a similar slump this season.

We have a made a wonderful start, but that s all it is, said Bruce.

Messi reaches 500 career goals

Lionel Messi reached the milestone of 500 career goals for Barcelona and Argentina against Valencia in La Liga on Sunday, but his side fell to a third consecutive top-flight loss.

The 28-year-old s strike in the 63rd minute at Camp Nou moved his tally for Barca to 450 goals, while he scored his 50th for his country with a penalty against Bolivia during last month s international break.

Messi had missed the chance to hit the landmark in Barcelona s Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, both legs of his side s Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid and their La Liga loss to Real Sociedad as part of his longest goal drought for Barca in six years.

But he was on hand just after the hour as he guided home a low cross from Jordi Alba, but it proved merely a consolat…

Shakhtar Donetsk v Braga: Taison is key to success, says Lucescu

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu underlined the importance of Brazilian winger Taison to his side ahead of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Braga.

Lucescu s men lead the tie after goals from Yaroslav Rakitskiy and Facundo Ferreyra helped them to a 2-1 first leg victory in Portugal, but the coach believes 28-year-old Taison is the man to watch as he seeks a strong end to the season.

Taison has been linked with a move away from Donbass Arena, with Chelsea said to be chasing his signature.

Lucescu admitted he could understand the speculation, but hopes Taison will continue to blossom in Donetsk, telling the club’s official website: I do not think he wants to leave Ukraine and Shakhtar.

Maybe he has just reached a certain level, …
