Griffiths set for Sydney unveiling

Joel Griffiths will reportedly link up with struggling Sydney FC in January after more than four years in Asia.

Since his last A-League appearance in 2008, the former Newcastle Jets forward has enjoyed stints with Japanese outfit Avispa Fukuoka and Chinese clubs Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua.

But the 33-year-old looks set to return to Australia s premier football competition via the January transfer window in a bid to assist the ailing Sky Blues, who find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table.

Media outlets in Australia indicate Griffiths will be officially unveiled by his new club at a media conference scheduled for Friday.

Griffiths told The World Game that he was excited by the impending transfer to Sydney but insisted he was not sure how …

Rangers 4-1 Kilmarnock: Gers come from behind to keep pressure on Celtic

Rangers came from behind to beat 10-man Kilmarnock 4-1 at Ibrox on Sunday to keep the pressure on Scottish Premiership title rivals Celtic.

After Celtic thumped Hearts 3-0 on Saturday, it looked like the Bhoys title charge could receive a further boost when James Tavernier put through his own net with 12 minutes gone at Ibrox after Liam Polworth s cross was nudged back across goal by Matty Kennedy.

However, Kilmarnock s Joe Wright was sent off for handling Dujon Sterling s goalbound effort shortly after, and though Tavernier s resulting spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Will Dennis, Rangers did get themselves back on level terms deep into first-half stoppage time as Fabio Silva turned home John Lundstram s cross.

Ben Davies then bundled the hosts into the lead w…

Chung Mong-joon vows to sue ´hypocrite´ Blatter

FIFA presidential candidate Chung Mong-joon has branded Sepp Blatter a hypocrite and a liar and vowed to sue the Swiss for embezzlement.

Former FIFA vice-president Chung underlined his disdain for the state of the organisation while speaking at the Leaders Sport Business Summit in London.

The South Korean billionaire claimed the corruption allegations made against a number of FIFA executives this year has left a stain on the governing body, and alleged that Blatter has accepted salary payments without the approval of FIFA s executive committee in the past.

FIFA has become a badge of shame. To call it a mafia is almost insulting to mafia, so blatant and arrogant is its corruption, he said.

At FIFA, money and power have blinded Blatter (to) the virtues of…

Manchester United duo set for exit

Manchester United have told defensive duo Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind that they are both free to move on this summer, according to the Times.

Darmian has been continuously linked with a return to Italy over the past twelve months and has now, along with Blind been told that he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

The Italy international moved to the Red Devils from Torino in the summer of 2015 and featured regularly in his first season in England playing thirty-nine times in all competitions, scoring once.

However, the twenty-eight year old full-back has been used more sparingly since and has played just six times in the league this term with just half of those outings coming from the start.

Interestingly Netherlands international Blind has…

I think Arsenal would be good for a German coach – Podolski

Wenger stunned the footballing world on Friday when he announced he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season after nearly 22 years in charge.

If someone was in a club for 2…

Vinicius sends ´a strong hug´ to Pele and says Brazil can ´keep dancing until the final´

Three-time World Cup winner Pele has been receiving treatment in Sao Paulo, though his family have denied reports that he is receiving palliative care.

On social media, the Selecao legend confirmed he would be watching Brazil s knockout clash with South Korea and will have enjoyed the performance as Vinicius opened the scoring before a Neymar penalty put him one short of Pele s all-time scoring record for his nation.

Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta rounded off the scoring to give Brazil a four-goal advantage at the break, with Paik Seung-ho s effort in the second half merely being a consolat…

Sean Dyche pleased to see Jordan Pickford prove his credentials

Sean Dyche says Jordan Pickford answered his critics with a crucial double save in Everton’s 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

Pickford recovered from scoring an unfortunate own goal earlier in the game to ensure his side left Bramall Lane with a point, miraculously denying Oli McBurnie twice at the death.

He tipped a header onto the underside of the crossbar and then recovered to turn the follow-up effort onto the post as Everton got their league season up and running after three successive defeats.
